“So, a while ago, I was running a PLAN52 mission for a group who were super excited to be secret agents. I mean, they’d studied and everything - when I started my brief at the beginning of the mission, they told me how they’d been preparing by watching a ton of spy movies. Like, James Bond, Mission Impossible, Johnny English - literally everything! I was super impressed.
Anyway, they were about twenty minutes into the mission and they managed to open a door. They were about to go in when the first person stopped at the door frame. And before they went in, they crouched down, like, fully crouched, and rolled into the room, all careful, careful. Then the remaining players followed suit! They all crouched down and rolled into the room!
When they’d completed their mission I asked them in the debrief what on earth they were doing. And it turned out it was because although there were no visible lasers, one of the movies they’d seen before coming was Ocean’s Twelve, which isn’t even a spy movie, they’d watched it to take a break, and they thought there were lasers on the door! It was really fun to see a team follow the immersiveness of the experience to that degree.
Now I really want to go and rewatch Atomic Blonde…”
